The Office has a Writing Problem

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU’RE A DIE HARD FAN. ACTUALLY...GO AHEAD AND READ THIS, I DON’T CARE.

To say The Office has terrible writing is like saying Blue Lives Matter, It’s just not true. The series had everything going for it. Great writers, a cast that can improv, and an adoring fan base that grows to this day. But while this show has many great moments something about it bothers me.

So after watching this show, for like the millionth time, I noticed something. The Office does this thing where it glorifies homewrecking. I think it’s happened like 9 times but the show runs this trope into the ground. People are constantly breaking up each other’s relationship. Jim is trying to get with Pam, Andy is trying to get with Erin, Dwight is trying to get with Angela. Like calm down bro. The only good thing i have to say about this is that Jim and Pam’s arch is the most endearing. Jim is shown as the underdog and Pam’s current boyfriend, Roy, isn’t an evil guy. Everything after this is just weird and wrong.

Everyone is cheating and stuff. Are we supposed to root for these guys? Angela has been engaged with TWO people in the office. Sometimes this is played for laughs, like in the case of Michael and anyone he’s been with but its exhausting to see this cycle happen so many times over the course of the show. If I worked at Dunder Mifflin I would’ve fought someone. I don’t see how you can work in the same space as your ex or the person that ruined your relationship. This is why Kevin and Creed are the best. They’re unproblematic. I’m never bringing my girlfriend to any office events. No one can be trusted.
