Gran Torino is an Excuse for Clint Eastwood to be Racist

Updated: Jun 16, 2020

Guys, we need to talk. Please have a seat. If you don’t know who Clint Eastwood is, chances are your grandparents do. Eastwood was born in 1930 and starred in western films in the 60s. Basically, this guy is old as hell. I have to give him credit though because he’s still making movies to this day. HOWEVER, there’s a little 2008 film called Gran Torino that we need to talk about.

Eastwood plays a Korean War veteran named Walt, living next door to a Hmong family. Never heard of Hmong people before? Well, I googled it so you don’t have to. They are a Southeast Asian ethnic group from China. You’re welcome. Anyways, the plot boils down to this, Walt tries to reform one of his neighbors who tried to steal his car. Now, I tried to give Walt’s character the benefit of the doubt because his wife died, he’s a veteran, and he’s old as dirt. Then, I started thinking...and Clint Eastwood is pretty damn racist. Eastwood told Esquire in 2016 that he was leaning on supporting Trump. He also went on to say things like, “We see people accusing other people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew, those things weren’t called racist.” He also praised Trump for going against the ethos of the “kiss-ass generation.” Sounds pretty sus to me. Given that Eastwood is old as hell I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s thrown the N-word around a few...hundred times. If you’re still here I have a gift for you. A challenge. Take a shot everytime Walt says a racial slur.

I wanna shoutout my girlfriend, Shantell, for this idea. She has a business you can check out here: www.bedazzlebaddie.com or on instagram @bedazzlebaddie
