After Thanos wipes out half of all living beings in the universe, he escapes to a farm and reflects on his victory.
This ending is so chilling. When you watch a superhero movie you expect to see superhero troupes. Like a kid with a troubled background, a freak accident causes superpowers, the villain wants to take over the city and/or the world, the hero saves the day and accepts their responsibility of being a hero, etc. Boom, end of story. You guys have seen it hundreds of times in films like Spiderman (2002), Batman Begins, Superman (1978), and Iron Man. How many superhero movies have you seen where the bad guy wins?....I’ll wait. Nothing? Yeah that’s what I thought. Throughout Infinity War, it’s very clear that Thanos is a force to be reckoned with. The powerhouses of the MCU got bodied. Thanos beat the Avengers like OJ beat the charges.
Infinity War inverts the traditional superhero story. We see beloved heroes fade to dust. We don’t know when or how they’re coming back, and no one expected Thanos to win. The only thing Captain America can say after all of carnage is “Oh, God.” THE LEADER OF THE AVENGERS IS SPEECHLESS. After all of this, there are no words...no drawn out speeches, no evil laughing, and no plot twist. In essence, it’s just a guy after a long day of hard work, sitting down and having a rest. The most sinister part of it all is the proud and subtle smile. What do you guys think?
